Garden State on Your Plate

On November 30th, we will be having our second Garden State on Your Plate event of the year.  The event will run 10.30am-1.30pm during the school lunch period.  This month, the tasting event will highlight carrots.

OUR CARROT TASTINGS will be led by chefs Dan Maher, Brad Ortega, Mike Gattis, and Rick Piancone of Princeton University Campus Dining. Before each tasting, a Campus Dining chef will talk with the students about cooking with carrots and why ingredients from local farms taste best. They’ll show the students several colors of carrots and explain how they can be used to make a colorful and tasty meal. The students will taste two different colors of locally grown carrots and note any differences in flavor. They will then taste carrot soup, which they will season with lime and cumin salt to taste how each changes the complexity of the soup.

The children will also be shown this video in their classrooms before the tasting.  This video features Littlebrook students and was made by students at John Witherspoon Middle School.
