Bill also encourages children to consider their interconnectedness with the larger natural world. In the wake of the 2011 Japanese tsunami, Bill worked with parents to create a partnership with a school in Sendai, Japan. The Riverside community sent funds to establish scholarships for students left homeless by the disaster, studied the event and exchanged letters, videos and other projects with the partner school. Following Hurricane Sandy, with Bill's blessing, the PTO transformed an election day bake sale into a hurricane relief effort, raising much needed support for our displaced neighbors while giving students a lesson in compassion.

Congratulations Mr. Cirullo, we are very proud of you!

Riverside School Principal Bill Cirullo is a recipient of the 2013 Sustainable Princeton Leadership Award!

For over 25 years at Riverside Elementary School, Principal Bill Cirullo has enthusiastically supported environmental projects, both large and small. Bill continually encourages staff, students and parents to "dream big" - with no idea being too far-fetched. From the bountiful school gardens to the courtyard frog pond with resident turtles and native plants, Bill has crafted and sustained a learning environment where students are vitally connected to the natural world. As a result, Riverside students leave this special community infused with a sense of wonder, excitement and responsibility for the environment.
